Jilin

Jilin is best known for Changbai Mountain, whose Heavenly Lake sits atop the dormant volcano as the deepest lake in China. With its crystal-blue waters embraced by 16 surrounding peaks, the lake is a scene straight out of a fairyland. Changbai Mountain also forms the natural boundary between China and the Democratic People's Republic of Korea.

In winter, along the banks of the Songhua River in Jilin City, river fog freezes and crystallizes in the frigid air, creating a spectacular rime ice landscape that stretches for dozens of li. It is counted among China's four greatest natural wonders, alongside Guilin's iconic karst scenery, Yunnan's Stone Forest, and the Three Gorges of the Yangtze River. World-class ski resorts including Beidahu and Songhua Lake are top winter destinations in China, while the Yanbian area invites visitors to immerse themselves in the vibrant culture of the local Korean ethnic group.
