The old saying goes: after returning from Huangshan, you need not visit any other mountain. Its iconic twisted pines, bizarre rock formations, sprawling sea of clouds, and natural hot springs are unrivaled anywhere in the world. The ancient Huizhou villages, with their characteristic whitewashed walls and black tiled roofs, feel like stepping straight into a traditional Chinese painting.
ABOUT · Destination Overview
Anhui's Huangshan is world-renowned for its "four unique wonders: strangely shaped pines, grotesque rock formations, seas of clouds, and hot springs". It was highly praised by Xu Xiaku with the famous line "After returning from the Five Sacred Mountains, you need not look at any other mountains; after returning from Huangshan, you need not look even at the Five Sacred Mountains", and is hailed as the world's most extraordinary mountain. Guangming Peak, Tiandu Peak, and the Guest-Welcoming Pine each boast their own unique charm.
The ancient villages of Hongcun and Xidi in southern Anhui are listed as UNESCO World Heritage Sites. Their whitewashed walls, dark tiled roofs, distinctive horse-head walls, and exquisite brick, wood, and stone carvings showcase the pinnacle of Huizhou architecture. Huizhou cuisine, known for its generous use of oil, bold colors, and savory, mellow flavor, is one of China's eight major regional cuisines.
